Fancy some Winter Sun? Our top 5 beaches for December Getaways.

In the UK, December is a Winter Wonderland – and we wouldn’t want it any other way! The festive feeling we experience is second to none; the cosy nights beside the fireplace, Christmas lights brightening up every inch of space, and hot chocolate adorned with scrumptious marshmallows. You can’t beat it, no matter how hard you try!

However, sometimes you may want a break from all the cold weather and bleak, long nights of darkness that December offers in the UK. This is especially apparent if you’re affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which is also known as ‘Winter Depression.’ So why not trade it all in for something a little bit warmer?

At Universal Flip, we have gone and put together our list of the Top 5 Beaches for December Getaways. These are in no particular order, so pick and choose wisely!

Surfer’s Paradise Beach – Queensland, Australia

Down under in Australia, you will be delighted to know that the months between December and February are their Summer seasons! You can easily take a pick between any beach in the country and find joy soaking up the sun. But our choice is Surfer’s Paradise Beach, based in Queensland on the beautiful Gold Coast of Eastern Australia.

This beach stretches across two kilometres of unbroken coastline, so you’ll definitely have a chance of finding at least one area to call your own for the day. Not only that but it is situated just outside the city. So after having a relaxing day in the sunshine, you can simply walk over to the shops or grab a nice, cold beverage. Divine!

Dominicus Beach – Bayahibe, Dominican Republic

Having been the first beach in the Caribbean to receive Blue Flag certification, Playa Dominicus is an ideal location to spend your Winter days. The glistening turquoise waves and delicately soft sand will make you want to stay permanently! Add in the extra factors of nearby restaurants, various activities and amazing hotels, and you won’t ever dream of leaving.

Considering the amount of things you can do here, and just how beautiful it is, you’ll find many other tourists with the same idea of ditching the Winter back home. But this doesn’t detract from the sweltering hot weather, which can reach highs of 30°C and lows of 23°C during December. Now that’s what we call consistent weather, unlike the UK!

Perhaps think about taking our Sandy Footprints Beach Blanket, perfect for sunbathing on.

Delfines Beach – Cancun, Mexico

Over in Mexico, Cancun is the hottest destination you’ll find out there during December – reaching an unprecedented 30.4°C, according to the Met Office. The beach we think you should visit here is Playa Delfines, also known as El Mirador (The Lookout).

As there are no hotels built onto the beach at all, you may find some peace and quiet during your stay. Instead, there’s a decent land area for you to pick a spot and enjoy yourself. But, come prepared as you might not find too many stores nearby for you to get refreshments from. There are clean restrooms, though, as well as palapas on-site and chairs or umbrellas for rent if needed.

We can’t recommend it enough!

Porto Santo Beach – Madeira, Portugal

For just a four hour flight, you could be enjoying the gorgeous northeast coast of Madeira this Winter. Instead, Porto Santo Beach is waiting for you to explore its fine, golden sand and clear, peaceful water. Some areas here have been awarded a Blue Flag, so you already know it has good qualities, while other zones are accessible to those with reduced mobility.

You’ll also find great Mediterranean cuisine not too far away alongside many bars and excellent accommodation options. Not only that, but you can also take a tour of the island’s greatest attractions where you can take in all the stunning sights. Many other tourists have highly received Porto Santo, so join them and find out why!

To protect yourself from the sun, wear one of our Be Kind Trucker Caps and look stylish too!

Las Teresitas Beach – Tenerife, Spain

Last but not least, we have Las Teresitas – “the most emblematic beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.” This 1,300-metre length area is home to one of the most picturesque scenes you’ll ever come across as scaling mountains and palm trees accompany the sands. Enjoy the calm waves thanks to the breakwaters which have been installed, then devour a mouth-watering snack at the nearby beach bar. Go on; you know you want to!

The great thing about Las Teresitas is that the beach is relatively uncrowded compared to others on this list. Combine this with some fantastic restaurants, disabled access and short trips from close-by holiday resorts, and you’re surely a winner this Winter!
